Ashok Leyland delivers first four AVTR 55T electric trucks to ASAT Logistics, advancing India’s green freight and sustainable transport goals.

On October 15, Ashok Leyland delivered the first four AVTR 55T electric trucks to ASAT Logistics. Just four trucks, but it’s the start of something bigger a full fleet of 24.

These electric haulers will be moving cement and other goods for Shree Cement, one of ASAT’s key clients. Cleaner, quieter and no tailpipe emissions. That’s the goal. It’s not just about new vehicles it’s about changing the way freight moves in India.

It was a big day at the handover ceremony, where Sanjeev Kumar — who heads the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles division at Ashok Leyland — passed the keys to Arvind Sarda, CEO of ASAT Logistics.

“This means a lot to us,” Kumar said during the event. “Helping partners like ASAT move to electric fleets — that’s the kind of change we want to drive. It’s not just talk anymore. It’s happening, right here.”

What Makes These Trucks Stand Out?

Big plans ahead: ASAT has ordered 24 of these trucks. Four are already running on Indian roads.

  • Charging is quick and hassle-free with lithium-ion batteries and dual chargers. Drivers get back on the road faster instead of hanging around waiting.
  • These trucks don’t need any special trailers or gear — they just slide right into ASAT’s current fleet without any fuss.
  • They come loaded with handy stuff like automatic transmission, ADAS (that’s driver assistance systems) and telematics, which help keep drivers safe and make it easier to track the trucks.
  • No smoke or fumes here and since they use energy efficiently, the trucks save money over time and help keep the air cleaner.

Voices from the Industry

Arvind Sarda, CEO of ASAT Logistics, sounded excited about adding electric trucks to their fleet. “This isn’t just about better business,” he said. “It’s about helping the environment and backing Shree Cement’s push to cut emissions.”

He added, “Switching to electric trucks isn’t just going green. It’s about building smarter, stronger logistics for India’s future.”

Moving Toward a Greener Future

Ashok Leyland, part of the Hinduja Group, is pushing ahead full steam with its electric vehicles. Its AVTR 55T is just one example of how it’s expanding its electric and commercial vehicle lineup.

The goal? A cleaner, carbon-neutral future for India’s freight sector. These trucks bring together solid tech, strong performance and an eye on sustainability — not as a trend, but as a long-term shift. Bit by bit, the company is helping reshape how goods move across the country.
