Tata Motors launches new Ultra range of Trucks

Tata Motors, the biggest Commercial Vehicles manufacturer in India, launched the new Tata Ultra range of Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicles (I-LCV) at Pune in April. The new Ultra range of Tata trucks are modern, powerful and next gen trucks ranging from 7 Ton to 16.2 Ton GVW, with flexibility to cater to various applications. A Designed and created with engineering passion, Tata Ultra truck series promises to deliver superior performance, higher payload capacity, best-in-class mileage, all leading to significant increase in revenue and lower cost of operation.

New Tata Ultra trucks range on display

Available on display were a wide range of application based Tata Ultra trucks including 2 wheeler carrier, container, tipper, reefer, poultry, etc. A total of 14 Ultra trucks from the Tata Trucks stable were displayed in different GVW options, customized for different applications.

Driveline powering the Tata Ultra Trucks : The new generation Tata Ultra Trucks are powered by 2 ingenuously developed 5L and 3L Turbotronn engines options, producing power output ranging from 125 HP to 210 HP, and torque range from 360 Nm to 840 Nm. The driveline of this new Tata Trucks range is mated to 6 speed or 5 speed manual transmission, including an option of Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). This new range of Tata Ultra trucks is based on a highly customizable modular platform, which can be adapted to any new emerging application and loading capacity.

Driver Cabin offered in Tata Ultra Series: Offering best in class driver comfort, Tata Ultra Truck series is offered in 3 cabin options: Wider cabin, Narrow cabin and Sleeper cabin options. All the cabins are walk-through type, for easy movement and come in different cabin widths of 1.9 to 2.1 meters.

Spacious, comfortable cabin with car-like interiors & features provide fatigue free driving, ultimately resulting in faster turnaround time and enhanced productivity for the operator.

The front parabolic suspension also helps in improving driver comfort. Tilt & telescopic steering adjustment helps the drivers, tall and short alike, offering them best ergonomic driving position and thus reducing driver fatigue.

Load Body and Wheelbase offered in Tata Ultra truck series : The new series from Tata trucks stable will be offered in different wheelbase options ranging from 3.3 to 6.8 meters. This will enable the manufacturer to offer deck lengths from 12 ft to 32 ft to offer to a mix of cargo loads. Advanced Telematics in Tata Ultra Trucks : Ultra range comes equipped with advanced features like Telematics, that help the owner transporter to do real-time fleet tracking, SMS and email alerts, Geo-fencing and remote unit management at the click of a button. The complete Tata Ultra trucks range comes with a standard warranty of 3 years / 3 lakhs kms on driveline.

Tata Ultra 1518 truck Tata Ultra 814 and Tata Ultra 1014 have been in the market for quite sometime now. The recent entry of Tata Ultra 1518 and Tata Ultra 1518T, offering 15.7 Ton and 16.2 Ton GVW with best in class payload, have been quite successful in the market. This tonnage point was missing in Tata Trucks portfolio for sometime and was the biggest reason behind huge success of Eicher Pro 1114, Eicher Pro 3015 and Eicher Pro 3016. It is to be noted that Eicher Pro 1114 is based on the Pro 1000 series range of value segment trucks and Pro 3015 as well as Pro 3016 is an offering from the Pro 3000 Series next gen range of Medium duty trucks.

And the increasing traction of Tata Ultra 1518 is giving serious challenge to Eicher Pro 3015 / Eicher Pro 3016 sales numbers month on month. This also tells us a trend that the Indian Trucks industry operating in medium commercial vehicles segment (16 Ton GVW) is shifting  from the traditional 6 cylinder engine vehicles to the modern 4 cylinder engine vehicles that offer better mileage and lesser maintenance.
